Made for Ski Adventures

Investing in a premium shell will enhance any winter day’s activity, but it can be hard to know which shell jacket to choose. We are avid lovers of ski mountaineering, backcountry skiing, and alpinism, something that shines through in our carefully developed selection of shell jackets. Our ski shell jackets are designed for longevity and ultimate performance with just the right features, all in a durable waterproof Cutan® fabric that is fluorocarbon-free. All jackets are equipped with a RECCO® reflector and feature a helmet-compatible hood. Crafted for life, these shell jackets are made to last for many ski adventures to come. Here we will guide you through our shell jackets that are perfect for the mountain.

Waterproofness

All our shells are made from Cutan® - a Klättermusen proprietary technology developed to improve on existing breathable, waterproof fabrics. Cutan® fabrics are fluorocarbon free, soft, and silent. At Klättermusen we also use a DWR (durable water repellant) that is 100% free of fluorocarbons. DWR is a treatment that creates a water repellent (hydrophobic) surface on the fabric and makes sure to keep you dry throughout the day.

Activities

Our shell jackets are designed with an activity in mind, meaning that features and fit are optimal for that intended use. Our main focuses are backcountry skiing, ski mountaineering, and alpinism, but the jackets can of course be used for any outdoor activities you see fit.

Fit

Klättermusen jackets typically have an articulated fit that allows for freedom of movement, crucial for skiing. The fit may vary from a more relaxed fit for backcountry skiing, to a closer, athletic fit for alpine skiing. Jackets can vary in length, with some being longer for extra coverage, while others are shorter for a more athletic look. This means that a size Large can appear different in size since the intended usage and movement will differ. Choosing your normal size will make the fit match the intended use. If a more relaxed fit is preferred, then we suggest going up a size.

Backcountry

Backcountry touring is about balance — between uphill efficiency and downhill protection. You spend long hours climbing through variable conditions, where ventilation and moisture control are essential. Choose a shell that’s lightweight, breathable, and flexible, with ventilation zips and articulated design for unrestricted movement. A slightly longer cut keeps you covered through every transition. Recommended pieces: Jolner for fast, high-output tours. Skirner for versatile backcountry days in shifting weather.

Skirner

Ski Mountaineering

Skirner is made for ski mountaineering, intended for long adventures where the ascent and descent are equally important, though harness and rope are not an essential part of your packing. Skirner is a lighter version of Brage 2.0, but still as durable and soft. Skirner has a relaxed fit and extended backdrop, providing that free-skier look. It is slimmer than Brage 2.0 but slightly longer and has a more relaxed fit than Allsvinn. Skirner has multiple pockets and comes without a snow skirt. It pairs perfectly with Skade 2.0 Salopettes for full protection. Complement the look with Ull 30L and your next ski mountaineering adventure is just around the corner.

Allsvinn

Freeride & Resort Skiing

Freeride skiing pushes your gear hard — from deep snow to icy wind. You need maximum protection, durability, and comfort when layering up for the lift and the descent. Look for a robust, fully waterproof 3-layer shell with reinforced panels and a relaxed fit for freedom of movement. Features like a snow skirt, helmet-compatible hood, and long ventilation zips help you stay comfortable all day. Recommended pieces: Brage 2.0 for deep powder and resort days. Draupner for stormproof freeride touring and harsh weather.

Expedition

When the mountain turns severe, your shell becomes your shield. Expedition conditions bring multi-day exposure, high winds, and heavy snow — demanding absolute reliability. A fully sealed, reinforced 3-layer shell with a protective collar, storm flaps, and space for insulation layers keeps you protected when conditions are brutal. Recommended pieces: Brede 2.0 for the toughest expeditions. Draupner for exposed alpine ridgelines and demanding conditions.
