Join our Scouting Expedition in the Chilean Andes

This Chile volcano ski touring trip is an early-stage exploration of a potential new KMX destination.

Over the course of the week, you will move across a chain of volcanoes in the Andes, ski touring on broad, open slopes shaped by volcanic terrain and descending long lines that stretch from summit to valley. The experience is built around daily movement, adapting to conditions, and making the most of what each mountain offers.

As a scouting trip, the structure is intentionally flexible. Routes, objectives, and the overall flow of the week may evolve along the way. The goal is not to follow a fixed program, but to explore the region in depth and understand its potential as part of the KMX portfolio.

You will join a small group led by Gonz Ferrero (CEO of Klättermusen and co-founder of KMX) and Fred Buttard (co-founder and Head of Experience Design and Guides of KMX), working alongside local Chilean guides to shape the experience while moving through this landscape.

Suggested itinerary

A four-wheel-drive vehicle travels along a dirt road through a forest of tall, sparse trees with distinctive, umbrella-shaped canopies. Day 1 — Arrival in Temuco

Arrival at Temuco Airport followed by a transfer of around two hours to Malalcahuello. You settle into Casa Río and have the option for short warm-up laps at Corralco. The day ends with a welcome dinner and an introduction to the week, with plans kept flexible.

Day 2 — Lonquimay Volcano

The first full touring day takes place on Lonquimay. A steady ascent leads to wide volcanic slopes, with the possibility to ski inside the crater before continuing into long, continuous descents that can extend toward the hot springs.

Day 3 — Sierra Nevada & Mapuche Community

A day combining alpine terrain and forest sections, adapting to conditions to find the best skiing. In the evening, you visit a local Mapuche community for a traditional dinner.

Day 4 — Llaima Volcano (3,125 m)

A sustained climb on Llaima with views across Conguillío National Park, followed by a long descent on open volcanic terrain. Optional spa visit in the evening.

Day 5 — Transfer to Pucón

Transfer south to Pucón, approximately three hours. The afternoon is free to rest or explore before settling into Aldea Naukana for the remaining days.

Day 6 — Villarrica Volcano

Touring on Villarrica with around 1,400 metres of ascent on consistent slopes. The descent combines upper mountain terrain with lower forest sections. Evening by the lake.

Day 7 — Final Objective

A flexible final day with options such as Quetrupillán or Mocho‑Choshuenco, or time to explore the surrounding area. The week ends with a farewell dinner.

Morning at your own pace before transfer back to Temuco Airport for departure.
