Accessing Svalbard’s Remote Terrain

This trip takes you straight into Svalbard’s Arctic terrain. Your base is an expedition vessel, moving between remote fjords and positioning you directly at the start of each day’s touring.

You travel through sea-facing mountains, climbing under your own power and skiing lines that descend towards the ocean. Conditions set the plan and routes shift as needed. Guides manage the safety framework. You focus on the experience, with the sea never far from view.

Day 1: Arrive in Longyearbyen

Meet at the airport and board your floating home for the week. Once settled, we will join together for a welcome dinner and sail into Isfjorden and anchor for the night.

Day 2: Ski the peaks of Isfjorden

After breakfast, we head into the surrounding mountains for the first day of skiing. The terrain offers a mix of moderate objectives, with steeper options available if conditions allow. In the afternoon, we return to the vessel and sail towards St. John’s Fjord before dinner onboard.

Day 3: Runs in St. John’s fjord

Today we explore the mountains surrounding St. John’s Fjord, an area framed by glaciers and varied ski terrain. Objectives are selected according to the prevailing conditions before we return to the vessel in the afternoon. In the evening, we continue north towards Krossfjorden, weather permitting.

Day 4: Explore Krossfjorden

The day is spent skiing in the remote surroundings of Krossfjorden, known for its dramatic tidewater glaciers and Arctic landscapes. We explore terrain suited to the conditions before returning to the vessel, with opportunities to spot traces of the area’s whaling history along the coast.

Day 5: The island of seals & walruses

We ski on Prins Karls Foreland, an island known for its open terrain, glaciers, and views across the surrounding coastline. Depending on conditions, the day may include long descents towards the sea before we return to the vessel and begin the journey back towards Isfjorden.

Day 6: Explore Barentsburg

Today's skiing takes place in the mountains around Barentsburg. In the afternoon, we return to the harbour and spend the night docked in the settlement. There is time to explore the town on foot, with the option to visit The Red Bear Bar and Brewery in the evening.

Day 7: Final ski day

Our final day of skiing is spent exploring new terrain around Isfjorden before returning to Longyearbyen. In the evening, we gather onboard for a farewell dinner and a final night aboard Valiente.

Day 8: Disembark and depart

After breakfast, it is time to disembark and begin the journey home. We transfer you to the airport with plenty of time before your departure.
