Tour Peaks Carved by Ice and Sea

Experience Arctic ski touring like never before, combining the freedom of the fjords with the thrill of backcountry skiing. Aboard Skydancer, a 73-foot schooner crewed by ski and sail pioneers who have circumnavigated the globe, you will reach peaks and fjords few ever see. Guided by IFMGA-certified experts, you will chase the best snow each day, then unwind on your floating basecamp with warm meals, stories and the rhythm of the Arctic sea.


Trip Overview


Day 1: Arrive in Alta and board the Skydancer
Transfer to Øksfjord and settle aboard the Skydancer. Enjoy a welcome drink and briefing before your Arctic adventure begins.


Day 2: Tverrfjord exploration
Skin and ski across varied terrain, from mellow tours to glacier descents, all with fjord views.


Days 3-6: Peaks of Finnmark
Each day we explore new fjords and new remote peaks. Routes are tailored daily, from powder-filled glades to steep couloirs, with evenings aboard the boat for meals and relaxation.


Day 7: Farewell descent
Take one last memorable run before returning to Øksfjord for a farewell dinner aboard the Skydancer.


Day 8: Departure
Transfer back to Alta Airport after breakfast, with time for a final glimpse of the Arctic coast.

Fred Buttard

Fred is a French IFMGA Mountain Guide with 25 years’ experience leading ski trips and expeditions around the world, with a focus on northern Scandinavia. He has been guiding in Finnmark since 2007 and also pioneered trips in the Swedish mountains. At KMX, Fred designs our journeys and oversees our team of guides. You can contact him with questions about destinations, local conditions, weather and snow, history and culture, or technical advice on skiing and kit.
