Cutan® is Klättermusen’s proprietary waterproof and ventilating fabric technology designed to improve on existing fabrics both in performance as well as sustainability by developing PTFE-free membranes to become PFAS-free in production. Cutan® fabrics are soft, flexible, have great stretch and are PFAS-free. There are different versions of Cutan® fabrics; 3-layer, 2,5-layer and 2-layer.
The 3-layer fabrics consist of a face fabric that provides durability and weather protection and a waterproof and ventilating membrane in the middle and an inside fabric, the backing, that protects the membrane from scratches. All layers are laminated together into one single ventilating and waterproof fabric.
The 2-layer version of Cutan® consist of a face fabric that provides durability and weather protection and a waterproof and ventilating membrane that are laminated together. This construction requires a separate lining on the inside of the garments to protect the membrane and enhance comfort against the skin.
The 2,5-layer version of Cutan® have a face fabric that provides durability and weather protection and a waterproof and ventilating membrane that are laminated together. A protective coating (the ‘half-layer’) is printed or sprayed on the inside of the membrane for protection. This half-layer replaces the need for a separate lining (or the backing), making the fabric lighter and more packable while still protecting the membrane from abrasion and body oils.
