Klättermusen offers a wide range of insulated jackets suitable for a variety of outdoor activities. Each jacket is specifically designed to be worn either as an outer layer, over your shell jacket, or as a mid layer. Most of our insulated jackets are made to be lightweight and packable to give you maximum versatility in its usage. The activity and conditions determine which jacket is right for you.

Heat Conductivity Resistance (HCR)

To help you navigate insulated jackets in terms of warmth, Klättermusen has developed the Heat Conductivity Resistance (HCR) system. HCR is a performance value for Klättermusen insulated jackets that considers insulation materials, external conditions, and body temperature sensitivity. The system allows you to optimize for the perfect warmth to weight ratio in its usage. Learn more about HCR.

There are many benefits to light insulation. Our light insulation jackets range from HCR values 3 and 5.

Light insulation for year-round in-motion activities

HCR 3 is the best option when you need a jacket for year-round in-motion activities. Primarily based on recycled or bio-based synthetic insulation techniques such as PrimaLoft Gold active+, these jackets are designed to be versatile with fabrics that release excess moisture vapor that builds up during high-intensity activities. The Vale or Alv series is your go-to insulation when you need thermal protection even when you are damp, and the fit is trimmed for maximum body movement. This also makes them perfect under a shell jacket when the wind hits.

Light insulation for cold and dry conditions

HCR 5 jackets have other characteristics that are preferred in dryer and colder weather. Our HCR 5 pieces are primarily made with RDS down insulation. These styles are slightly more spacious and perfect when you need to throw it on during inactivity. For example over a shell jacket when you are setting up camp or taking a break for lunch. Bifrost, Liv, Idun and Atle 2.0 will be your top candidates in this HCR category, combining a light fabric in the core and reinforced fabric on the shoulders for higher abrasion resistance. HCR 5 can also be worn as a mid layer, in which case choose a smaller size than normal to get a tighter fit.

Klättermusen’s heavy down insulation styles are designed for cold and dry conditions in winter or in more extreme temperatures. Heavy in performance, light in weight. Our heavy insulators range in HCR values between 7 and 9.

Perfect function meets sustainability

Klättermusen’s heavy insulation jackets are made from Responsible Down Standard-certified white goose down. Down is sensitive to both internal and external humidity, which may impact thermal performance - HCR 7 pieces are therefore preferred when in cold and dry conditions. The Bore 2.0 and Farbaute offer the perfect function and sustainability insulation choices.

Heavy down insulation for extreme conditions

Insulated jackets with HCR value 9 build up on HCR 7 with extra functionality and reinforcement to withstand water and wind. They are intended to be used no matter the humidity level or external factors. Nifelheim has excellent wind resistance and water resistant whilst Iving 2.0 is fully wind- and waterproof. Both jackets take attention to details to the next level as compromises are not allowed. Both jackets ensure your safety during extreme cold conditions.

Benefits of Wool

Natural insulation such as wool outperforms any other insulation material when it comes to moisture wicking, warmth and odor fighting capabilities. Klättermusen offers wool insulation for when you need to keep warm all-year round, regardless of the activity.

For thermal regulation, standard wool is used for both outer layering and inner padding. Recycled wool gives old and worn-out garments new life, and it is a highly effective way of being sustainable. Discover Skoll, Austre and Balderin for your next all-year wool jacket.
