Finding the Right Backpack

Choosing the right backpack is about finding the right balance of capacity, carrying comfort, weight and functionality. A smaller, streamlined pack keeps you moving freely when carrying only the essentials, while longer adventures and heavier loads require more space, support and adjustability.

Start by considering how long you'll be out, what activity you'll primarily use the backpack for and how much equipment you need to carry. These factors will help determine the right capacity, construction and features for your needs.

How to Choose the Right Backpack

Choosing the right backpack starts with capacity, but how the pack carries matters just as much. A smaller, streamlined pack keeps the load close to the body and allows greater freedom of movement, while heavier loads require more structure, support and weight distribution for lasting comfort.

Consider how long you'll be out, the equipment you'll need and how you'll be moving. Together, these factors determine not only the right capacity, but also the level of support and functionality you need from your backpack.

1. Fast Missions (2-15L)

For short and fast-paced adventures, a compact backpack keeps weight and bulk to a minimum while carrying the essentials. Capacities between 2 and 15 litres are ideal for trail running, shorter hikes and activities where freedom of movement matters, with enough room for water, snacks, a lightweight layer and smaller essentials.

2. Single-Day Backpacks (18-32L)

For full days outdoors, a mid-sized backpack provides space for food, water, extra layers and activity-specific equipment without unnecessary volume. Capacities between 18 and 32 litres are a versatile choice for hiking, ski touring and climbing, balancing carrying capacity with freedom of movement.

3. Multi-Day Backpacks (35-100L)

For longer adventures, additional capacity and carrying support become increasingly important. Backpacks between 35 and 100 litres provide space for clothing, food, technical equipment and overnight gear, while a supportive carrying system helps manage heavier loads over longer distances.

Choose a Backpack for Your Activity

Different activities place different demands on your backpack. Whether you're hiking, skiing or climbing, choosing a pack designed for how you move helps you find the right balance of capacity, carrying comfort and functionality.
