Organic cottonKlättermusen took the decision in 2006 to work only with organic cotton to lessen our environmental impact. Conventional cotton is considered one of the most polluting crops due to the heavy use of pesticides and insecticides in production, and there are also concerns regarding worker’s rights, child labour as well as unsustainable water consumption.
Organic cotton is grown without any pesticides or chemical fertilizers, instead methods like beneficial insects and mechanical weeding help to reduce the environmental strain of the crop. No GMO crops are used and cultivation is done with care for the environment. Cotton is still picked by hand in many countries, and organic cotton farming protects workers from hazardous chemicals, both in their work but also the surrounding communities and polluting of drinking water.
We work with two different third-party certifications for organic cotton, GOTS and the EU Council Directive on Organic Farming.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain including processing and dying of the fabric.
