Bean-based polyamideAt Klättermusen, we have never been afraid of going our own way and questioning convention. Over the years, our close co-operation with fabric suppliers have given us interesting opportunities to be first on the market with new technologies and fabrics.
One of our long-time collaborators, Toray, have experimented with bean-based polyamide in recent years and we are the first company to use it in outdoor products.
Traditionally, polyamide is extracted from petroleum which isn't the best solution for the environment. However, we have been able to replicate 60% of this process using castor bean oil. This lessens the dependence on fossil fuels and creates a more sustainable alternative to traditional polyamide. In the near future, we hope to be able to replace 100% of the petroleum with castor bean oil and create a biodegradable polyamide fabric, creating “natural synthetics”.
